about zoë

Zoë Martin teaches group and individual yoga classes in Leicester and London. Her approach to practice and teaching is inspired and informed by the teachings of the legendary yogi Sri T Krishmacharya and his son TKV Desikachar as taught to her teacher Paul Harvey, Bristol.

Zoë began to study the practice and theory of āsana (yoga poses) and prāṇāyāma (breathing techniques) in 1999 in the Sivananda approach. In 2002, she trained as a Sivananda Yoga Teacher and practiced and taught this approach for some years, teaching regularly at the Sivananda Yoga Centre, London. She went on to study dhyāna (meditation) with Swami Saradananda author of Chakra Meditation and The Power of Breath. She has also studied yoga for pregnancy with Uma Dinsmore - Tuli author of Mothers Breath and Teach Yourself Yoga for Pregnancy and Birth.

From the offset, Zoë was fascinated by the therapeutic aspects of yoga and was eager to deepen her understanding in this area.

In 2005, she began personal lessons with
Janet Evans, London, who skilfully introduced her to the teachings of T Krishnamacharya and his son TKV Desikachar, this intelligent, authentic, structured approach to yoga was exactly what Zoë had been seeking. In the same year she completed Paul Harvey's Introductory and Foundation Courses which further deepened and inspired her understanding of yoga. Zoë's practice and teaching gradually became firmly rooted in this approach.

As a teacher, she encourages those who study with her to build on or develop their own authentic yoga practice through the practice of
āsana, prāṇāyāma, mantra (sound) and dhyāna.

She teaches group classes, individual yoga lessons, yoga for pregnancy, workshops and retreats and more recently group classes for people with mental health problems and people with arthritis.

She has been privileged to study yoga on workshops and retreats with TKV Desikachar and Menaka Desikachar, Srivatsa Ramaswami and A.G. Mohan and Indra Mohan all students of T Krishnamacharya.

Zoë continues to study regularly with her personal teacher Janet Evans, London.

She is currently studying with Paul Harvey on his Yoga Teacher and Yoga Therapy Training Programme and has recently trained with him as a cYs Introductory Workshop Course Teacher.

She is an accredited British Wheel of Yoga Teacher.
